Commercial Utility Audits
As part of the demand side management program of E-ON U.S., E-Max identifies ways commercial customers can lower their utility bills and conserve energy in the process. This service is funded through a line item charge paid by every qualified commercial energy customer of Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities.
Our team of trained auditors use customized programs that allow us to complete the audit more efficiently and get a customized report to you within days of signing up.
Three major areas of
energy consumption:
1. Heating and Cooling: Should you replace your boiler, furnace, or air conditioner? Typically the answer is no; even though savings can be significant, the high cost of installation prohibits an attractive payback period. However, with rising utility costs, paybacks are getting better for this type of recommendation. Therefore, E-Max will supply you with information on the replacement option we think is appropriate, i.e. high efficiency condensing furnace, high efficiency heat pump, high efficiency dual-fuel heat pump, etc. Depending upon the complexity of the system(s), we will provide you with cost and savings estimates.
2. Building Envelope: Is your insulation adequate? Should you install replacement windows?
- With information you provide regarding your current insulation levels, we will calculate the optimum levels you should have and provide you with any recommended changes.
- If windows appear to be a significant source of heat loss, we will recommend the best solution and show you savings and costs.
- We will investigate other factors that may contribute to high heating or cooling bills, i.e. cold air infiltration, poor weather stripping, ill fitting windows, etc., and provide you with recommendations for improvements to your building.
3. Lighting: Are there more efficient products on the market to save you money and labor hours? Did you know retrofitting your lighting can save you energy on your air conditioning bill? We'll show you in black and white just how much you can save just by retrofitting your existing fluorescent and HID fixtures or by replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents which in some cases can show an extremely quick payback with No Initial Cash Outlay Required!!!

- We will schedule one of our audit technicians to perform the site inspection.
- One our schedule appointment date, prior to inspection, our technician will talk with you for a few minutes about your everyday operations, and any problems or concerns you may have regarding your energy usage. Then, a walkthrough inspection will be performed. Our technician will take an inventory of all energy using euipment, including, but not limited to lighting, HVAC, motors, refrigeration, food service equipment, computers, office equipment, etc. They will inspect the building envelope (i.e. windows, doors, insulation values, etc.). While a walkthrough is necessary, your time involvement will be kept to an absolute minimum.
- Data collected during the audit is taken back to our engineering office where a detailed and easy to read report is is prepared outlining the following:
- Your annual energy use and equipment load estimates
- Your energy efficiency category (low, normal, high)
- Specific recommendations to help improve energy efficiency with savings and payback estimates
- Many suggestions tailored precisely to your business to help improve efficiency that can be done "in house" with your own staff for minimal to no cost
